Dr. Cary Kaufman presents the evolution of surgical breast cancer treatment. He discusses the Reconstructive Lumpectomy and oncoplastic breast surgery innovations, including the BioZorb® 3-dimensional marker and its use in improving cosmesis and in radiation planning. As delivered at NCoBC, March, 2019 Presented by Dr. Cary Kaufman

Two experienced breast surgeons highlight their experience with BioZorb® and using 5-day radiation with SBRT.  This conversation features oncoplastic procedures to decrease re-excision rates and improve cosmesis.  Additionally, the discussion includes the evolution of radiation techniques including WBI + Boost, APBI, LDR Implant, 3-D CRT, SBRT and IORT. Dr Kaufman talks about better targeting boost in partial breast irradiation to avoid unnecessary radiation treatment volume, thereby potentially avoiding fibrosis and other side effects; additionally, he highlights maintaining the contour of the breast throughout treatment and beyond using BioZorb®.  Dr. Gorman discusses the impact of various radiation treatments on long-term patient satisfaction, as well as combining oncoplastics with innovation radiation techniques and includes the three pillars of case planning:  Cosmesis, Radiology & follow up surveillance and Radiation. Audience questions are answered at the end. As delivered at ASBrS Breakfast Symposium, May, 2019 Presented by Dr. Cary Kaufman and Dr. Valerie Gorman

Is oncoplastic reconstruction really necessary? Dr. Anne Peled explains why her answer is always yes. In her presentation, she’ll discuss how to obtain improved aesthetic and psychological outcomes with oncoplastic surgery, as well as the key Level I concepts of aesthetic scar placement, marking the tumor bed and closing a lumpectomy defect. Dr. Peled outlines factors to consider in evaluating a patient for oncoplastic reconstruction, planning for Level I vs. Level II procedures and BioZorb® marker vs. surgical clips for marking the tumor bed.
