Speaker Biography

Arlene Seña, MD is a Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases, and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, UNC-CH Gillings School of Global Public Health. She served as the Medical and Laboratory Director at the Durham County Department of Public Health from 2000-2020. She has diverse research interests in novel diagnostics and therapeutic regimens for STIs, including trichomonas, bacterial vaginosis, Mycoplasma genitalium, and syphilis. She is currently the Co-Project Director for an NIH-funded grant for syphilis vaccine development. She is a consultant for the CDC STD Treatment Guidelines and the NC STD/HIV Prevention and CareBranch.
