Speaker Biography

Haywood Brown, MD is the Senior Associate Vice President for Academic and Faculty Affairs for USF Health and Vice Dean Faculty Affairs and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Morsani College of Medicine at the University South Florida. He is Obstetrics and Gynecology Chair Emeritus at Duke University.

Dr. Brown is a proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro receiving his Bachelor of Science in Professional Biology. He completed his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Knoxville, Tennessee, followed by subspecialty fellowship training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine/Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He also holds an Executive Physician Leadership Certificate from Wharton School.

Dr. Brown has had a distinguished career as an academic leader in education, clinical care, and research for more than three decades.

Dr. Brown has served in numerous local and national leadership positions including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists at the District and National levels. In 2017-2018, Dr. Brown served as the 68th President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is also a Past President of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine and the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society and a former Obstetrics and Gynecology Section Chair for the National Medical Association.

Dr. Brown’s ACOG Presidency focused on disparity and women health equity and Re-defining the Postpartum Period: The Beginning of Lifelong Health. He is currently the Co-PI for the HRSA Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health Postpartum Community Care Initiative. He serves on a number of women’s health committees or boards focusing on health equity currently including the Alliance for Women’s Health Prevention and the Merck for Mothers Global Health Advisory Board.
