Clinical Presentation of Vaginitis (510-602)

During this presentation, vaginitis, a leading reason for OB/GYN visits,1,2 will be discussed. Upon completion of this program, attendees will be able to:

  • Define vaginitis and its associated health consequences
  • Describe the common causes of vaginitis including bacterial vaginosis, candida vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginalis
  • Outline the treatment options for the common causes of vaginitis

Diagnostic Consideration for Vaginitis (510-603)

During this presentation, vaginitis, a leading reason for OB/GYN visits,1,2 will be discussed. Upon completion of this program, attendees will be able to:

  • Define vaginitis and its associated health consequences
  • Compare the typical methods for diagnosing vaginitis including wet prep, Amsel, gram stain with Nugent, direct probe, yeast culture and nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT)
  • Explain the reasons for using NAAT to diagnose vaginitis
  • Outline the treatment options for the common causes of vaginitis

Neonatal Health: The Impact of Group B Streptococcus Screening, NAAT-based Detection, and Prophylactic Interventions (510-605)

During this presentation, Group B Streptococcus (GBS, Streptococcus agalactiae), a public health concern and a cause of serious newborn morbidity and mortality3, will be discussed. Upon completion of this program, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe GBS including the causes, risks, and symptoms of the infection
  • State the guidelines for GBS screening from the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
  • Compare the diagnostic testing methods of culture and nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) for GBS
  • Outline options for the prevention and management of GBS early on-set disease (EOD)
  • Recognize the success of GBS screening strategies and their impact on EOD rates
