This session will update attendees on:
1. The current guidelines for cervical cancer screening with the use of Pap and HPV testing. There will be a review of the natural history of HPV and the role of persistent infection in the development and maintenance of neoplastic change and the progression to invasive cervical cancer. The use of HPV testing and the role of genotyping in co-testing women 30 and older will be discussed. The session will also discuss the role of counseling women including the rationale for testing for HPV and the meaning of a positive test for HPV.
2. Data surrounding breast cancer screening with special emphasis on the impact of “dense breasts” and new screening modalities such as Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (3-D Mammography).
